Evolution - Flexibility

Impression

In the mountains, the climate is harsher than in the lowlands. Generally, mountain flora is therefore shallower and thinleafed. By reducing their surface size, these plants are less exposed to the wind.

Adaption

A common dandelion is able to genetically adapt to its habitat. If a plant grown in the lowlands is split into two parts and one part relocated to a mountain area, this part will grow thinner leaves and overall remain smaller.

Selection

The plant alters its genome practically on the spot. The remarkable capacity to adapt is the basis for the evolutionary success of the dandelion. The plant reacts flexibly and very quickly.
